Mark and Darline Logan
having been coming to Parts Plus Riverside
International
Speedway for 35-40 years. They are at the races every
Saturday night unless Mark has to work.. Darline is a nurse
for Dr. Oakley Jordan and Mark works for Tennman
Entertainment. Mark and Darline have sat on the west side
and the east side, but they prefer the east side. They love
the renovations Clayton has done with the checker board
walls, the iron work, the tables in the concession area, the
television, and the pavilion area where the 2-seater is
displayed. Their favorite concession food is those
mouth-watering, delicious BBQ nachos. No question about it,
this couple has sprint car fever. They love the adrenaline
rush that they get from watching the sprint cars zip around
the race track. They were quick to pick their favorite
drivers, Jeff Swindell and Derek Hagar. Mark and Darline
like the fact that Derek and Jeff are hometown boys and both
of them are competitive and compassionate drivers. They
have watched Jeff’s race career at Riverside, WOW, ASCS; and
they have watched Derek since he began racing at Riverside
several years ago. When they see Jeff in public he is
always friendly and just a “nice guy”. Derek is the same
way; he is always polite and friendly no matter where you
see him. Darline and Mark said, “Jeff continues to excel in
his sprint car and they see Derek as a rising star
in the sprint car division.” Their most vivid Riverside
memory is the USCS special where Sammy and Ricky Stenhouse,
Jr. had a little altercation during the feature event which
resulted in Ricky, Jr. spinning out and Sammy winning the
feature. The incident on the track evolved into an off
track situation with Jeff Swindell, Sammy Swindell, Ricky
Stenhouse, Jr., Ricky Stenhouse Sr. and many others meeting
on the front straightaway disagreeing on what happened.

Mickey lives in Mason, TN. He is an
avid fan of Riverside and has been coming to Riverside for
15 or more years. He brings his grand nieces, Megan, Kayla,
and Alyssa from Oakland, TN with him. Mickey loves the
atmosphere at Riverside. He said that the fellowship with
his race track friends makes him look forward to race day
plus his nieces are always ready to come. He is a big fan of
the remodeled appearance of the race track especially the
east ticket entrance that includes the checkerboard bricks,
iron fencing, and the landscaped display area between the
east ticket entrance and the grandstands. Mickey said that
he likes all classes, including: Stocks, #17 Chris Payne;
600s, #96s Samantha Garagus and #89s Tim Sites; Late Model,
#51 Justin Glover; #5S Tyler Smith, & Modified, #77 Josh
Ray. But, if he had to pick just one driver Dale

- Damian Wignley lives in Hernando, MS and is the owner of
American Collision. He and his son, Blaine, were chosen to
be fans of the week because of their enthusiasm for the
races. Damian is a former 360 and 305 sprint car driver. He
drove the #12 305 and the 1W 360 sprint. Damian said he
crashed his sprint car about 4 or 5 years ago, and he just
didn’t put it back together. Neeless to say, his favorite
class is the sprint class. He and his son
picked Dalton Davis
to be the winner of the 305 winged sprint feature. Damian
and his son, Blaine, definitely know how to pick a winner. |

John has been coming to Parts Plus Riverside International
Speedway since th 1960s. He said his late wife got him to
coming to the Riverside to watch the races. He can’t come to
the races as much now as he has in the past because his poor
eye sight does not allow him to drive at night. When his
friend, Terry Loftin, isn’t working Terry brings John to the
races. Terry is also a fan of Riverside and he has been
coming to the races since 1972. When John was asked which
class he prefers, his comment was "anything that runs on
dirt". John’s favorite driver is T J Hughes, Jr., driver of
the 19Jr late moel. |

John
Kelley, Bartlett, TN, has been coming to Riverside since
1958. He loves dirt track races and loves PARTS PLUS
RIVERSIDE. His favorite class is the 360 & 305 winged cars.
His favorite driver is Ernie Ainsworth, driver of the #40
sprint car. Favorite memory is watching Hooker Hood chase a
driver down the front straight away with a tire tool. Hooker
was angry with the driver because of a race incident. John’s
wife, Libby, comes to the races occasionally. But John and
his friends, Alan Crosby, Mike Horton, Wayne Morris, & Gary
Taylor are some of our best fans who never miss a race at
Parts Plus Riverside International Speedway. |

7-30-11 -
John Mosby has been coming to PPRIS since 1979. John is a
retired automotive shop teacher from Whitehaven High School.
He was invited to come to the races by some of his students
who were race car drivers. Those drivers were Allen
Vanlandingham, Lynn Irwin, and Bubba Wilburn. John also knew
Wimp Gatlin and David Berryman who were also graduates of
Whitehaven High School. John’s favorite drivers are Lynn
Irwin, of course, and Mike Bowles. John comes to the races
every Saturday night with his friend, Donald Smith. Donald
was chosen last week to be the fan of the week and we just
had to pick John this week because they just go together.
Both of these men are loyal and faithful fans of Parts Plus
Riverside International Speedway. |

7-23-11 -
Donald Smith, Southaven, MS, has been coming to the races
since 1957. Donald comes with his friend John Mosby (bottom
left) and his favorite drivers are Mike Bowles (center) &
Eddie Gallagher. He drove a "C" car with Butter Bean Goolsby
and part owner of an "A" car. His most memorable event was
when Hooker & Ellis Palisini went up underneath the stands
into the concession stand in turn 1 bleachers. |

PAUL MANERS
HERNANDO, MS |
7-16-11 -
Paul
Maners of Hernando, MS, was selected as fan of the week
because he has been
a familiar face around the race track since the 1960s.
One of our judges, Elaine (pictured at the left with Paul)
gave him a red folding chair back in 1967. Paul
has used that same chair back since that time every weekend
since 1967.
Paul started
coming to the races because his neighbor, Johnny Crim,
convinced him that the races were great. Paul came one
night and caught Saturday night racing fever. When RIS
is open Paul is there! His favorite class is the
sprints and his favorite driver is Dale Howard #47.
His fondest memory of RIS is watching Hooker race and then
sometimes watching Hooker in a fight after the race.
Paul said where Hooker was, there was always "action".

"REV GUY" LEONARD
NESBIT, MS |
7-9-11 -
"Rev.
Guy" Leonard of Nesbit, MS, was selected because of his
exuberance and love of the racing action, his excitement is
contagious. You can see Rev. Guy yelling and cheering for
his picks for each race. He never sits still. He
is always moving and watching the cars carefully as they
move around the race track.
He has been
married for 30 years and has 3 grown children and 2
grandchildren. His favorite class is the modifieds because
he thinks there is more hard racing in the class. "Bro.
Guy’s" love for Riverside began when his uncle Spec Ross,
was driving a sprint car "super modified Car # A 98" in the
60s. Bro. Guy has returned to RIS after traveling around the
country with his job as area manager of Aamco Transmissions.
Glad to have you "Back Home at Riverside"! |
